CONFINEMENT OF ATOMS AND MOLECULES

About

Early work in the group looked at how confining an atom or molecule in a restricted geometry – inside a fullerene cage, a spherical or cylindrical cavity, or an external potential well – changes its electronic structure. We computed energy levels, dipole polarizabilities, and electric response for hydrogen and heliumlike systems under various confinement geometries, using B-splines and related numerical methods.
